One of the biggest expenses when planning a trip to Disneyland, excluding entrance fees, is that of the hotel, and if you are talking about the amusement park in Tokyo, one of the most expensive cities in the world, everything is even more expensive.

A bit of trivia. Disneyland Tokyo is the only park not owned by Disney. Built in the 1980s, it opened its doors in February 1983. At the time Disney's accounts were not flourishing so management decided to license it to Oriental Land Corporation. By contract the property pays royalties as if it were a franchise and Disney provides advice and attractions, but does not participate in any way in the licensee's capital stock.

As can be seen from the floor plan, the two amusement parks Disneyland and DisneySea are isolated from the rest of the area and are surrounded by the monorail, which allows people to reach the entrances to the parks either from the subway or from the resort hotels.

There are two hotels directly connected with the park, but 6 other properties are also part of the Tokyo Disney Resort Official Hotels that can create packages including admission to the parks and offer themed rooms inside.

Our choice, of course, fell on the Hilton Tokyo Bay, because being. American Express Platinum holder I am granted Gold status in all facilities that belong to the chain and that means free breakfast, room upgrades and many other privileges.

Needless to say, this facility is mainly suitable for families with children; in fact, it offers themed rooms that can also accommodate large households.

To get around from the hotel, there is a convenient shuttle that takes guests to the monorail stop (for a fee), which allows guests to reach the entrances of the two parks conveniently and quickly.

    Reservation

Le rules for obtaining Hilton privileges are clear, but this is one of those facilities where you can also consider booking through portals for a cheaper rate than the 25 thousand yen (about €200 per night) for a room.

Eventually finding no alternatives, I decided to book two nights through ' app, at a cost of 70K Hilton Honors points per night for a Happy Magic room with a view of the park. Here perhaps the only disappointment of this hotel was just the view, rather than the park in the distance you could see the parking lot and the monorail.

    Chek-in

A few days before our arrival, we received an e-mail from the hotel manager explaining the different options we had for reaching the facility and containing a variety of useful information for our stay.

The facility is huge, but upon our arrival it was uncrowded. We went through all the formalities, and as a first surprise I discovered that the manager, having noticed that the date of our arrival coincided with my birthday, had prepared a little surprise-I would find it in my room in the evening when I returned after the day at the amusement park.

    The room

Unfortunately no upgrade because the type we had chosen was already the highest. What can I say more than a room was a parade ground with three queen beds, one attached to the other and still room for a small sofa and two armchairs under the window. All " themed" Winny The Pooh, one of the most famous characters inside the park.

Of course, the room had everything you would expect from a Japanese facility.

    Food and beverage

The breakfast buffet offering is also excellent; being a huge facility for Gold and Diamond customers, a fast track is also in operation, a convenience that at peak times can mean skipping a nearly 30-minute queue.

Breakfast is served in the open space overlooking the huge windows overlooking the hotel's garden and pool and in the dining room.

Honorable mention for the exquisite birthday cake that the hotel management had me find in my room upon our return after spending the entire day inside the amusement park.

In conclusion in this stay, not only did we save more than HH 400 through the use of Hilton Honors points, but we earned almost HH 30k through spending at the hotel.

Since you earn 10 points for every dollar spent at the hotel, buying park tickets on the room bill allowed us to turn the expense, which we would have incurred anyway, into double points. Both Hilton Honors and Membership Rewards since we settled the bill with my American Express

    The verdict
Perfect location for visiting the two parks, it is so close that you can even decide to go for a "nap" and then come back to the park since the hours are from 8 am to 11 pm. Breakfast where nothing is missing, huge rooms and if needed inside there is also a small supermarket
