The Best Airport Award of 2020 and it's a double this year for Italy.
It was decreed by Aci Europe, the association that groups the Old Continent's airports. The most coveted award, that of the best airport in Europe, in the most coveted category, that for airports with more than 40 mln passengers, went to Rome Fiumicino, while theTurin Caselle Airport triumphed in the category of up to 5 million travelers.
For the third consecutive year, Fiumicino is Europe's Best Airport. For Troncone, ADR CEO: "The Best Airport award testifies to the virtuous path that has made Fiumicino the most recognized airport in the world in contrasting Covid-19. It is a new milestone in ADR's strategy, which is increasingly focused on service excellence, sustainability and innovation."
This year, the prestigious achievement has a particularly important significance because it covered the measures and protocols adopted in the containment of the pandemic and confirms how the capital's airport is the most recognized in the world in the fight against Covid-19. Fiumicino, in fact, continues to be the only airport globally to have been awarded the maximum 5-star rating by Skytrax, the international airline and airport assessment organization, after receiving Biosafety Trust Certification from Rina Service and Airport Health Accreditation (the first airport in the European Union to obtain it) also from ACI.
This is the first time in the history of ACI's surveys that the record has been awarded for three consecutive years to the same airport. Fiumicino airport, therefore, excels in the quality of services provided to passengers, technological innovation and functionality of infrastructure. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Aeroporti di Roma has launched a considerable intervention plan, due to the breadth and depth of the measures implemented, in order to ensure safety and comfort for passengers and workers. From the activity of sanitizing the entire airport perimeter, to the automatic "UV Clean Touch" sanitizations of escalators, elevators and object trays, to the remodeling of spaces within the airport to ensure social distancing that is indicated by appropriate signage, to the installation of more than 350 sanitizing gel dispensers and about 100 latest-generation thermoscanners, which measure body temperature in less than 2 seconds. Maximum attention has also been paid to public information, both through the updating of service monitors and through special dual-language information totems with tips on behaviors to counter Covid-19.
First in the category of up to 5 million passengers, the Turin airport distinguished itself by its ability to promptly and effectively implement preventive measures to contain the pandemic, sometimes being the first to propose innovative solutions.
Special emphasis was placed on training and employee protection, as well as the ability to collaborate with the community, supporting people and schools in need through donations to neighboring municipalities.
During the ceremony, Torino Airport CEO Andrea Andorno said, "I am proud that Torino Airport has been honored as Europe's Best Airport 2020 in its category. This award is the result of everyone's work, those who have been on the front lines and those who have, through their day-to-day activities, ensured business continuity."
