It cannot even be called a false start, because in fact no one has left. The corridor that would have allowed residents to move freely between the two nations has not yet been crossed that has already been closed.
The first flight was to take off from Hong Kong on the morning of tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 22, a little later the opposite flight from Singapore was also scheduled to leave. Instead yesterday came the halt from authorities in the former British colony because of what is being referred to as the fourth wave of Covid-19.
Causing the halt was the fact that on the day of November 20. 13 new cases of coronavirus-positive people were recorded in Hong Kong.
When the rules of the first bubble between the two countries were first drawn, it was stipulated that if either area recorded more than 5 cases on the same day, a 14-day blockade to connections would be immediately triggered.
At this point the next date for the start of connections is moved to Dec. 6, provided that in the process we do not again cross the 5-positive threshold that would trigger yet another referral of what is, for all intents and purposes, the first non-essential travel bubble in Southeast Asia.
