This is a decidedly unusual Christmas. A Christmas Of planes on the ground, of dreamed trips and postponements. No stewardesses in Christmas attire, no panettone consumed in flight, no toasts in the clouds. Today's trips are tomorrow's, guidebooks closed on the nightstand and itineraries clutched in the mind.

However, the airlines chose to wish a Merry Christmas. A wish they would have liked to have made verbally, on board a plane that carries far away. A wish that, today, passes (only) through the web.

Alitalia's best wishes

"We would have liked to see you, as we do every year, all traveling but this year we are expecting a different Christmas than usual, as it has been throughout this 2020. We all want to send you our sincerest wishes and look forward to seeing you on board with the warmth and smiles of always! Happy Holidays to you all, from all of us," he writes on Facebook Alitalia, sharing the (ironic) video of a Christmas in the time of Coronavirus.

United's best wishes

How does Santa Claus arrive in children's homes? On board an airplane United! Or, at least, that is what the American company wants us to believe, posting a video of a Santa Claus with a mask ready to board the aircraft.

Best wishes from British Airways

Moving, full of love and hope is the video shot by British Airways, to wish a Merry Christmas and a much better 2021. "Thank you, Great Britain. We couldn't have done it without you. We all hope for brighter skies ahead in 2021 so we can reunite you with the people and places you love," the company wrote to Brits. To then launch its Christmas contest: two lucky Executive Club members will be able to win a handbag from the brand The Cambridge Satchel Company (Taylor Swift's favorite handbags, to name a few).

From American Airlines to Tap, the airlines that chose gifs

If United, Alitalia & co. have opted for cute videos, many are the airlines that have instead chosen simple but effective gifs to make their Christmas greetings.

On the Facebook page of American Airlines, two planes "kiss" under the mistletoe. "This vacation season, love is ... on the runway! Beware of mistletoe," the company writes. Not only that: for a last-minute gift, it offers a One-Day Pass within the Admirals Club (on the day of departure or arrival of a future flight).

"The magic of Christmas is in the air! At the end of an atypical year, TAP continues to fly and connect Portugal to the world, always safely. We wish you all happy vacations and, as always, have a good trip!" writes TAP Air Portugal instead.

"Merry Christmas from the official airline of Santa Claus! Santa Claus gets busy with the coming of winter: every year he is relied upon to bring joy and gifts around the world. What's his secret for always delivering presents so quickly and safely? Its official airline, of course! Finnair has been Santa's trusted travel partner for nearly 40 years, helping this world traveler fulfill his mission since 1983," writes Finnair, playing on Santa Claus' all-Finnish origin.

Merry Christmas to all of you -- also from The Flight Club!
