Christmas ruined for Hong Kong-bound passengers aboard British Airways and KLM planes.
Of course, the question arises as to how many travelers might have been on board the two companies given that the former British colony's borders are closed and very few exceptions.
The protocols in Hong Kong are very strict and include a quarantine on arrival pending the outcome of the swab and then isolation for 14 days for all people allowed to enter the country.
Authorities are, in effect, holding airlines accountable, and if a single positive passenger is found among those carried, a two-week flight ban, a kind of disqualification, is immediately triggered, preventing carriers from carrying passengers to Hong Kong, but not from carrying people out of Hong Kong.
As reported by the Morning Post, KLM's ban will expire on December 17, while British Airways' ban will last until after Christmas.
The news was confirmed by the British airline, which reassured passengers by confirming that flights from Hong Kong to London will operate regularly.
It is likely that passengers booked on the daily BA27 flight will be rebooked onto the flight of Cathay, a member of One World and a partner of British Airways.
