Health Minister Roberto Speranza signed the decree blocking all air connections between Italy and England with immediate effect.
We know that" the new virus" is faster, does not seem to do more damage on individuals, but increases the number of infections. From early information it appears that vaccines may work on this variant as well, but more robust scientific studies and investigations are needed to be certain.

Italy's decision is not isolated. The Netherlands and Belgium have also gone in the same direction, and France is considering stopping rail links in addition to flights. In contrast, the variant strain of Covid-19 identified in London and southern England does not worry the United States, which will not stop connections for now.
In Italy, protocol requires that all passengers who have arrived in recent days from England be thoroughly rechecked.
As a reminder, it was mandatory for those arriving from the United Kingdom to submit to a swab or show up at boarding in possession of a negative swab not older than 48 hours.

he Foreign Ministry has released the text of the order signed by Luigi Di Maio and being published in the Official Gazette regarding the return of Italians from Britain. The ordinance, as already anticipated in recent hours, allows "the return to Italy to citizens with registered residence in Italy since before December 23, 2020 or who show proven reasons of need."
In this way, the government helps all Italians who were stranded in London and other cities in Britain.
