British Airways announced today that it will cooperate with Michelin-starred celebrity chef, Britain's Tom Kerridge, who has designed a series of gourmet food items, including cakes and sandwiches, to be pre-purchased for all passengers on short- and medium-haul flights in Euro traveller class.
In contrast to the Lufthansa, which will totally eliminate economy class service, BA will maintain the distribution of water and snacks on board but will also give passengers the opportunity to reserve these special dishes.
There are 5 dishes designed by chef Tom Kerridge and they are adapted to the English tradition and the various types of passenger diets.
- Steak & Ale Pie
- The Ham Hock & Smoked Cheddar Sandwich
- The Spiced Cauliflower Tortilla Wrap (Vegan)
- The Chicken, Bacon and Celery Brioche
- The Brie Ploughman's Sandwich (Vegetarian)
Carolina Martinoli, Director of Brand and Customer Experience at British Airways, said, "Over the past few months we know that our customers have enjoyed the free refreshments offered, so they are not going away. We wanted, however, to offer more choice and the opportunity to buy something more substantial. That's why, after a successful partnership with M&S, we collaborated with another British icon, Chef Tom Kerridge."
"Our expert teams worked closely with Tom to create delicious British dishes for our short-range menu. We know how popular the menus Tom designed for our centennial were with our customers, so we are delighted to be working with him again and look forward to passengers experiencing his fantastic recipes at 35,000 feet."
Tom Kerridge, Michelin-starred chef, said, "I am really happy to be working with British Airways again. A sandwich, prepared with care and excellent flavors, can be a perfect meal, and I hope passengers enjoy my short-range menu."
In this case you have to say "thank you covid-19" since before the crisis in economy on short-haul flights everything was paid for except a glass of cold or hot water of your choice, but the tea bag you had to bring from home.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, on the other hand, BA has been serving free drinks and snacks to passengers, now with this new option to order before flying, it will still keep the service free, a small attention that will not cost the airline much and will surely be appreciated by passengers.
