Crackling start of the year for Singapore Airlines: although the city-state is still closed to all travel-with very rare exceptions-the company has announced that it will increase frequencies on the route to Milan. The motivation may also be related to the need to use the connections to move cargo-it is cargo that has managed to keep all the world's major carriers afloat in these months of crisis.
The new operatives
The new flights will depart from Milan Malpensa to Singapore every Monday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, while those returning will land at the Heath Airport every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The flights will be operated by theAirbus A350-900, a fuel-efficient aircraft with a capacity of 253 places: 42 in Business, 24 in Premium and 187 in Economy Class. A total of 1,518 seats and increased cargo capacity will be available each week between the 2 cities.

Renewed statuses and miles rollover
The carrier announced that it had extended the statuses expiring in 2021 to all Silver and Gold customers for another year and likewise carried over into the 2021 account all qualifying miles earned in 2020, effectively making it easier to renew statuses for the current year as well.
There is bad news, however.
There is not only good news for Italian users. In the general silence there was a big devaluation by American Express, which changed in the first days of the year the rate of Membership Rewards points conversion. As of Jan. 1, the new conversion rate is 2,000 krisflyer points for every 3,000 MR points transferred. Quite a cut since previously the conversion rate was 4,000 KF points for every 5,000 MR points.
Going around the world, without paying, has thus become much more expensive in terms of American Express points that will have to be transferred to the Star Alliance group company.
