La Latvian airline Air Baltic, the first carrier to bet on a Airbus A220-only fleet chosen when they were still called CSeries and produced by Canada's Bombardier, and Lufthansa today announced a codeshare partnership.
As of March 28, Lufthansa. will fly in codeshare on routes operated by airBaltic between Munich and Riga and between Munich and Vilnius. The German carrier, therefore, should continue to provide connections by its own means between Frankfurt and the Latvian capital.
Conversely, the cooperation with Lufthansa will enable airBaltic passengers to book flights via Munich or Frankfurt to many cities in Germany such as Nuremberg, Hannover, Cologne, as well as destinations in Britain, France, the Balkans, etc.
For airBaltic, it is a return to its roots, as it already had a strong partnership with the German carrier in the past such that it also participated in the Lufthansa Miles&More loyalty program. Over the years then things changed, and the company created its own loyalty program without joining any Atlantic alliance, but cooperating with many other carriers such as Alitalia, with whom flights in Codeshare from Milan and Rome to Riga.
