In the past few days the low-cost carrier founded by David Neeleman, the same entrepreneur behind the relaunch of TAP and repeatedly likened to Alitalia, unveiled the beautiful new business cabin configuration of the upcoming Airbus A321, planes that will be used to hunt for passengers willing to fly between the two sides of the Atlantic, for the time being on the London/New York route.
Of course, the same planes will be used for coast-to-coast routes, that is, transatlantic connections between New York and California and vice versa.
The one unveiled today is the carrier's new "Mint class" or business class configuration, which was already one of the finest and most award-winning in the entire U.S., but with the arrival of the new A321 Jetblue has definitely outdone itself by anticipating the design of the "new Mint Experience"
Features of the New Mint Experience
- Transformation of each place into a suite: inspired by the popularity of the four private suites in its current Mint configuration, JetBlue will offer more privacy with 24 individual suites. Every inch of space anticipates customers' needs with several features, including a 17-inch tilting screen and wireless charging. Nothing is left to chance as phone holders and easy-to-reach power outlets are provided. Thanks to a herringbone layout, the carrier will be able to take advantage of the all-new seats on its single-aisle aircraft, a design customized by the company's engineers.
- Mint Studio is the pinnacle of space and privacy: the all-new Mint Studio-created by Acumen and developed in collaboration with AIM Altitude-is JetBlue's latest revolutionary innovation, offering maximum space in a premium experience. Each aircraft will have two Mint Studios in the front row, providing ample space to work or relax, where there will be a 22-inch screen, an extra table for increased productivity, and a guest seat. When lying down, customers can stretch out and relax on the largest reclining bed on any U.S. carrier.
- Truly a bed in the sky: JetBlue relied on Tuft & Needle, the innovative mattress company that pioneered the bed-in-a-box. Designed for comfort, each Mint seat is lined with patented T&N Adaptive® foam and a breathable cover to create a cool, comfortable sleeping experience unlike any other "flying bed." The seat incorporates additional amenities, such as a convertible blanket with built-in bootie, a memory foam-lined pillow with pillowcase, and a snooze kit with matching eye mask and earplugs.
Beyond design the attention to detail
- Flannel-covered privacy dividers, cement-colored lampshades, wood-grain tables, and soft seats and headrests upholstered in vegan leather will make passengers feel at home.
- The suite's custom-created gradient panels bring light into the cabin, while the door guards are decorated with the typical mint leaf.
- The unique lighting is designed to enhance the in-flight experience.
In conclusion
JetBlue is not the first that will aim to cross the ocean with narrow-body aircraft, in Europe the first was TAP precisely with A321s. The Portuguese airline's business configuration, however, is standard; the one envisioned by the American carrier, on the other hand, is a real revolution that aims to attack the customers of premium carriers, offering in some respects a far superior product even to British Airways' new club world suite.
In general this proposal will lead to a benefit for passengers, the New York/London route is among the busiest and most profitable routes in the world, with the disappearance of Norwegian this will be a "low-cost" alternative to traditional carriers, but for those who want there will also be a real business class to the benefit of passengers' pockets.
I personally look forward to trying both the new A220 and this cabin as soon as it is possible to travel again.
