We told you about it recently, the intention of the Olympic Committee, in consultation with the Japanese government, was to have the Summer Olympics held at any cost, even to close the doors to all the fans of the world.
Today came the official decision. The next Olympics and Paralympics will actually be behind closed doors, or rather arenas and stadiums will be open only to residents and not foreigners.
Currently, the Covid-19 situation in Japan and many other countries around the world is still very challenging, and numerous strain variants have emerged, while international travel remains severely restricted globally. Based on the current pandemic situation, it is highly unlikely that people from abroad will be granted entry to Japan this summer. In order to provide clarity to ticket holders living abroad and to enable them to adjust their travel plans at this stage, the government and organizing committee together with the IOC and Tokyo Prefecture have come to the conclusion that starniers will not be able to enter Japan at the time of the Olympics and Paralympic Games. This conclusion will further help to ensure safe and secure games for all participants and the Japanese public.
