Time is running out, after the UK has already equipped itself with its own Health Passport, managed through theVeryFLY application, Europe cannot stand idly by, we must return to travel safely.
The pandemic has upset the plans of many, the sector of the tourism has been and still is one of the hardest hit, and consequently the airlines have also been affected economically by this crisis.
One of the proposals put forward by the International Air Transport Association was precisely to establish a Travel Pass, managed through special applications for smartphones in order to monitor the tracking of those who have swabbed or received vaccines prior to departure.
President von der Leyen's pressing
The president of the European Commission, Ursula von Der Leyen, announced via a tweet that as early as March a legislative proposal will be submitted that will allow the creation of a Digital Green Pass, which will allow travel between member states and beyond.
We'll present this month a legislative proposal for a Digital Green Pass. The aim is to provide:
-Proof that a person has been vaccinated
-Results of tests for those who couldn't get a vaccine yet
-Info on COVID19 recoveryIt will respect data protection, security & privacy
- Ursula von der Leyen (@vonderleyen) March 1, 2021
The Green Pass will therefore provide evidence that the traveler has undergone the following vaccination vs. Covid-19 or the result of the test negative for those who have not yet been able to access the vaccine and generally all useful info regarding quarantine and anti-infectious behavior rules.
Last but not least, the president ensures compliance with the privacy, Of the safety and security of the data Of users. A topic close to our hearts, especially for us Italians, given the famous controversy that arose from the establishment of the Immuni app.
Italy's position
Initially, Italy was neither for nor against the adoption of a Health Passport, but recently the situation has unlocked thanks to the intervention of the new premier Mario Draghi, who said he was favorable to the initiative.
The European Commissioner for Economic Affairs, Paolo Gentiloni, had this to say:
"Well if you can create a certificate common, should not contain who knows what information, but simply the fact that the holder has been vaccinated and possibly whether only with the first or also with second dose. That said, there is also a very delicate and difficult side of the coin regarding the need to balance the interest in the recovery of economic sectors with avoiding discrimination."
Italy, therefore, is also working to introduce this useful tracking tool, only if it is a project to large scale European and not dictated by individual member states.
The Privacy Guarantor espouses Gentiloni's line, stating that data on the vaccination status of each individual is sensitive and a congruent treatment of the same is necessary to avoid infringing on people's fundamental rights.
Italian vaccine to make up for lack
It is known news that the pharmaceutical agencies that are handling the production and distribution of the vials are in wheezing, doses are halved and even AstraZeneca has stated that it is willing to give up licenses of production to meet the huge demand for Covid-19 vaccines.
Here we are seeing more and more talk in recent weeks about making serum at home, thanks to the start of trials for Takis, ReiThera, and Irbm. The ReiThera company has already passed the first phase and is about to enter phase 2, while Takis has started phase 1.
Apparently something is being moving and after initial hesitations about establishing a Health Passport for travel, it now appears that the initiative is finally taking shape.
