Air France has released a new video on onboard safety regulations. A clip that is making waves online, considering the attention to detail in the project. The basic idea was to offer a summary of the french culture, passing through art and history, but not only that. Not the shortest film ever (not even the longest), intended for long-haul flights. An elegant way to inform and entertain at the same time.

Two flight attendants are tasked with explaining safety instructions to passengers. Something those accustomed to traveling know well, but it is always important to repeat. There is a tendency, in fact, to listen passively to the procedures given before departure. Here, then, is the point of such videos: to intrigue the user and push him or her to assimilate simple concepts so as to be ready for any eventuality.

Air France's security video, which can be seen above, uses lively, musical-inspired melodies to take passengers through the country's beauty, which has so much to offer. In an instant, one finds oneself from the Opera Garnier to the gardens of Versailles. Space, too, is given to the French Riviera, as well as romantic Provence. Not to be forgotten is the importance of museums, fashion, as well as simple little streets full of cafes, shop windows, and bookstores. A world to be discovered for a clip that is a kind of preview of the vacation you are about to enjoy. The whole thing, of course, ends at the top of the Eiffel Tower.

Catherine Villar, SVP Customer Experience Air France, spoke about the new safety video, which is released six years after the last one: "We show the best of France in an emotionally engaging way. All our teams are ready to welcome customers, highlighting the French way of life. We look forward to reopening the skies, flight after flight. The absolute constant will be safety." What about Covid-19? No reference within the video. On board there will be a way to explain directives to that effect, which will hopefully disappear during 2021/2022. The video, however, will have to survive longer.

More security videos

Air France is not the only airline that has decided to upgrade its security video. In the early part of 2020, for example, Qantas Airways created a film with a dual purpose. On the one hand, it aimed to provide the public with an intriguing safety video, and on the other hand, a tribute to the company itself, which has been in the air for as many as 100 years.

A journey through time, from its origins to the present, highlighting the changes that have taken place in both social and technical terms. A true short film highlighting all the achievements of the Australian company.

American Airlines Safety Video

American Airlines proposed its own video in December 2020, focusing particularly on its crew members. The film features different crew members taking the floor and guiding passengers through safety procedures.

Decidedly more imaginative, however, is the video of British Airways, released in 2017 and quickly became a cult following in the genre. The idea is to show fictional auditions for the short film dedicated to on-board security measures. This allows a variety of stars from film, television, and music to alternate in the video. From Chiwetel Ejiofor to Thandie Newton, Gordon Ramsay to Ian McKellen, Jess Glynne to Rowan Atkinson. A real "treat" full of British humor.
