The list of countries that have chosen to open their borders is getting longer. From Croatia at Greece, from the Belize until the Thailand and Polynesia, numerous resorts that have announced the return of vacationers. In Europe, the line is the three-way option: vaccine, negative swab or certificate of recovery. Overseas, in contrast, the hard line prevails with access for vaccinated only.

Israel reopens to tourism, but vaccine will be mandatory. This was announced by Tourism Minister Orit Farkash-Hacohen and Health Minister Yuli Edelstein. As of May 23, a limited number of fully vaccinated tourists (and thus with two doses of vaccine behind them, or with one dose in the case of single-dose serum) will be allowed to enter the country.

The vaccine will not be enough, however, according to local sources, tourists who want to spend their vacation in Israel will also have to show a negative swab and a Certificate proving the existence of the antibodies. All, before they fly. Upon arrival at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, travelers will be subjected to serological test. This additional precaution at a later date will be eliminated, and just the vaccination certificate will suffice.

"It is time for Israel to take advantage of its vantage point, that of a safe and (almost) zero-contamination country, to get out of the economic crisis. Opening up to international tourism will give us breathing space for hotels, restaurants, archaeological sites, guided tours, public transportation and numerous other tourism-related activities," Farkash-Hacohen said.

Currently, Israel has vaccinated almost 60% of its population. New cases are less than 20 per week, and its vaccination plan is probably the best in the world.

Is it possible to go to Israel today?

Dreaming of a weekend in Tel Aviv, some relaxation by the Dead Sea, or a trip through the history of Jerusalem? Currently and until April 30 at least, Israel is in thelist C. Together with the United Kingdom, it has thus joined the countries of the European Union and the few others to which tourist travel from Italy is permitted. Upon returning to the Boot, however. observe 5 days of self-isolation and undergo swab on the sixth day (a swab must also be taken in Israel, 48 hours before returning to Italy).

However, at the moment, Israel is not open for tourism. At least it is not for Italians. Those who should travel to the countries for the permitted reasons (as per the website of the government) must take a Covid-19 test 72 hours before departure and submit a self-certification of health to be completed online within 24 hours prior to departure. In addition, all foreign nationals are required to have a'permission to enter by the Israeli Authorities, issued, upon application of the interested parties, by the Israeli Embassy of the country of origin and the Israeli Ministry of the Interior on the grounds of proven necessity and urgency.

On May 23, things will change. But you will need to be fully vaccinated to spend your vacation in Israel.
