Brescia is definitely not a tourist city, but the presence of many hotel chains such as Hilton, Marriott, and Accor makes it clear that it is a business destination. And in this perspective, the hotel I am about to tell you about is perfect.
Reservation
As usual you only ever book through Hilton's app, not taking advantage of official channels means not earning points and not taking advantage of the benefits of the Hilton Honors Program.
There are two important (cumulative) offers going on right now that allow you to earn an extra 2,000 points for each stay, and for those who are not Gold, there is an opportunity to become one with only 4 stays.
I booked a night in a King Superior room with the X2 rate, the one that allows you to accumulate double points with a difference of just a few euros on the reservation price and maximize your collection.
Digital check-in
This hotel offers the ability to check in directly from the app, and so I did. In the appropriate section you can choose your room. With great pleasure I noticed that I had received an upgrade to a Junior Suite, which was about 30 euros more expensive than the room I had booked.
The hotel also offers the digital key, in fact the smartphone turns into the room key and can be used to open the room door, activate the elevator, and any other situation where you would normally use the card. It is not a Covid-related innovation, but few hotels in Italy in the Hilton group offer this product.
Physical check-in
The hotel is easy to reach from the A4 highway, is in a residential area and close to a university campus.
Unfortunately, we are in Italy, so you must also do the traditional check-in by re-submitting your documents, signing the privacy and receiving the keys, despite having chosen to use the digital one.
Due to Covid, a breakfast buffet is not provided, but the option is presented to make reservations by choosing from a restricted menu what to eat in the morning. Menu to be served at the requested time at the breakfast room.
Interesting solution, but one that does not appeal to me, which is why I preferred to receive 1,000 HHonors points provided by my benefits as a Gold member.
The common areas are very well furnished and modern, as is the entire facility.
Without the iconic warm cookie chocolate and hazelnut is never the same stay at a DoubleTree.
The room
Quoting Bruno Barbieri, "The rules of hotellerie require that a Junior Suite have two separate rooms." And here I must say that it really has it all. The room is divided in two by a half wall, on one side a small living room with a sofa and several seats, a mega 49″ TV, kettle and stocked mini-bar.
On the other a king-size bed, very comfortable, a second TV of the same size as the first. The room faces the main side of the facility, despite the large windowed area I must say that the street in front of the hotel is quiet and not very busy (I don't know in non-Covid period). On the contrary, if you really have to find a flaw, it is not excellently soundproofed and you can hear other people's TVs, as well as the chatter of people passing by in the corridor.
Hidden in the closet are the iron and ironing board, safe, and hair dryer.
Modern bathroom with walk-in shower and large, generous supply of personal care products, the classics of the Hilton family.
In conclusion
Great facility for those who have to stay in the area, it is not downtown so you still have to use a vehicle to get around, but in this time of lockdown and curfew at the end the hotel is the only place where you can have dinner and drinks even after 10 p.m. (or 6 p.m. depending on color).
