Covid-19 has crippled the world of tourism and beyond, but it has also prompted innovative solutions to look to the future, standing out as much as possible. One example of this is the islands Maldives had announced an amazing loyalty program to boost tourism during this complex time for the industry, to say the least. A way to succeed in rewarding frequent travelers and prompting others to do the same.
The loyalty program project was launched in the fall of 2020 and bears the name of Maldives Border Miles. In short, points are guaranteed depending on how often one travels to the country. A system that also takes into account the length of stay of tourists.
Maldives, details of loyalty program
Travelers interested in a vacation in the Maldives, to be repeated perhaps in the near future, they will be able to accumulate points right away by simply accessing a platform. A site dedicated to Maldives Border Miles has, in fact, been created. Joining the initiative entitles users to immediate 50 points. It is then necessary to indicate the number of nights you intend to spend there. It is good to point out how it is not convenient to extend the vacation beyond the limits of the month.
The system considers 5 points for each night booked. However, there is a limit of 30 nights, beyond which the point system is no longer upgraded. The hope is to channel as many people as possible to the area, prompting travelers from all over the world to opt for the Indian Ocean for exceptional events as well. The reference goes to weddings, birthdays and anniversaries. Should bookings refer to such occasions, the platform provides special awards.
There are three elite levels Of the Maldives Border Miles program. Here are what they are:
- Aida: This is the third level, whose benefits are triggered with 500 accumulated points. It provides discounts from 3 to 10% at hotels, restaurants and resorts linked to the initiative. You can also take advantage of a free trip to the island and visit a local family, so you can learn about local customs and traditions
- Antara: is the second level, whose benefits are triggered at 2,000 accumulated points. Partner-related discounts rise to 5-15%
- Abaarana: is the third level, whose benefits are triggered with 4,000 accumulated points. In this case, discounts at partners go up to 10-20%
The types of partners involved in the guaranteed discounts also change from level to level. With 2 thousand and 4 thousand points, it is also possible to obtain a "Privileged Immigration Clearance" so as not to have to suffer the "inconvenience" of tight controls by immigration officers and endure long lines.
It comes naturally, however, to wonder how we can accumulate points. The allocation is made in the following manner:
- 50 points for crossing borders
- 5 points for each night booked
- 30 points for events such as weddings, anniversaries and birthdays
- 20 points during the season running from June 1 to August 31
- 10 points during the days of Eid
- 5 points for all activities booked with partners listed on Maldives Border Miles
In conclusion
If you are not a fan of the Maldives, you will not get much benefit from this program. For those who are regulars, however, the real (and only) benefit is the fast route that allows you to get through customs, but I doubt that for the next 18/36 months there will be long lines of tourists as in the pre-Covid world.
