Ryanair has announced a new expansion in Italy. The carrier's focus is once again on Lombardy with a major investment at the airport in Milan Malpensa. The addition provides for two new aircraft, for an economic outlay of as much as 200 million dollars.

Summer is approaching, and the summer of 2021 promises to revive the entire industry after last year's drastic decline. Travelers will be able to take advantage of well 30 operational routes. Four of them totally new, heading to Barcelona, Corfu, Santorini and Zakynthos. All this in view of the European reopenings related to the vaccination campaign. Within a few months, tens of millions of passengers will be able to move without restrictions and obligations from one state to another.

Ryanair's flight plan for Milan Malpensa increases from 5 to 7 aircraft, for a total of 30 routes. Four of these are new, as indicated, which brings the number of weekly flights to 195. An important operation, especially after the past year, which will engage 210 jobs.

Different destinations will see a sharp increase in the number of flights:

  • Alghero
  • Cagliari
  • Heraklion
  • Palermo
  • Toast
  • Bari
  • Catania
  • London Stansted
  • Port
  • Vienna

This is complemented by connections to popular tourist destinations, such as Gran Canaria and Alicante. An intriguing plan, especially for those who long to return to a life punctuated by short trips and lightning breaks within a stressful work month. This will make it easier to reach destinations such as Berlin and Dublin or the beauty of Sicily.

On this business transaction, he expressed his views on Jason McGuinness, Ryanair's business area director: "The implementation of the vaccine programs will enable air traffic growth in the coming summer. This operation strengthens Italy's domestic and international connectivity, contributing to the recovery of the entire tourism sector, as well as regional economies."

Ryanair, investment in Italy

Significant investments with regard to the Italian market, amounting to approx. 600 million dollars. The Irish low-cost carrier strongly believes that summer 2021 can be a driving force for the entire industry.

A path that continues unabated, ready to consolidate Ryanair's position as the leading domestic carrier in terms of passenger numbers. In addition to the upgrades planned for Milan Malpensa, the company has also found space in Treviso, where the airport will reopen in June. Millions are also raining down at Bologna and Bergamo-Orio al Serio. The two airports will both be enhanced by an additional aircraft. Added to this are three new routes from Naples, heading to Majorca, Menorca and Edinburgh. All part of the carrier's summer operations, which will include a weekly frequency.

The vaccine passport

The European Union is working on the Digital Green Certificate, which is the vaccination passport able to ensure absolute freedom of movement in the period immediately following mass vaccination.

Ryanair, however, does not seem at all interested in this option. The vaccine passport will in no way be required to board the low-cost airline's aircraft. "On our flights," Jason McGuinness explained, "it will not be required. We believe that under the free movement, guaranteed in Europe, there should be no such limitations."
