After analyzing how many inches we are generously "given" by the low cost airlines, now let's see how traditional airlines behave.

In this article:

Unlike the low-cost ones, which have to optimize spaces on board and have seats and seats all the same, traditional airlines divide their planes differently: the consequence is that the space available to passengers is greater and, depending on the class of flight, the type of seat also changes.

But how are the places divided?

Places change depending on the plane and the company. We first point out that in the most great there is not only one bridge, but there is also a upper deck as in the A380, dedicated to the most luxurious, where space is abundant and you have the opportunity to travel in real mini apartments. An example of this is. Ethiad's "The Residence," a  three-room apartment "in the clouds" with a living room, bedroom and private bathroom, which alas will most likely be retired.

In general, it is good to make a distinction between aircraft used for the short/medium radius and for those instead at long range or intercontinental. As for short/medium haul, since these are short trips, the space on board is very similar to that of a LOW COST, therefore more contained. Different discussion, however, for aircraft at long range offering all the comfort of the case, such as the possibility of sleep Comfortable on board.

In general, especially for intercontinental aircraft, starting from the head of the aircraft, we have:

    • First Class: the best seats on the plane, the seats recline and can turn into a bed. They present all the comfort possible and imaginable. Many companies offer the option of totally "shutting down" through certain barriers in order to have more privacy.
    • Refreshment Area: sometimes there is an area relax with a bar and cafeteria where you can enjoy a drink or coffee during the flight.
    • Business Class: a step below First Class, but with respectable comfort, starting with the seats that also recline for more space.
    • Premium Economy: many airlines have introduced this new class, a kind of middle ground between a Business and Economy, the seats are comfortable even though the space is not the same as a Business or First Class.
    • Economy: finally we have the cheapest class of the plane, quite similar to the seats of a low-cost airline.

Let us now see how much space we have with the major traditional airlines.

    Alitalia

    map seats alitalia

As we can see from the B777-300 seat map, we have in fuchsia the seats in Business Class, followed by those in purple which are the Premium Economy, the places in yellow are those with extra space and the remaining places in green are instead Economy.

Speaking of inches, for seats in Business are plentiful, we can recline seat comfortably without bothering anyone thanks to the meter we have available; as for the Economy seats, on the other hand, the centimeters are 76.2, nothing too different from a low-cost one.

Alitalia allows passengers traveling in economy class to book the Comfort Seat (to be clear, the place in yellow) that allows you to gain approx. 12.7 cm for domestic flights and 25.4 cm for flights intercontinental.

    AirFrance

    map airfrance seats

Also similar is the seating arrangement for Air France, the first are dedicated to Business Class, the ones in light blue are dedicated to Premium Economy, and the remaining are the Economy seats.

Air France's centimeters are more generous for the Economy part, in fact they exceed eighty and go up to 81.3 cm.

In terms of short-haul travel, Air France uses Airbuses A320 with features similar to a low-cost one and then the space is almost the same as the category economy.

    KLM

    KLM seats map

KLM also follows the standard arrangement, World Business Class in the lead, followed by Economy Comfort and finally Economy with four seats dedicated to theextra space.

As for the inches available for each seat:

    • Economy seats Europe: legroom of 76 cm and reclinability of 9 cm
    • Economy seats Intercontinental: space of 79 cm and reclinability of 12.5 cm
    • Economy Comfort seats Europe: 5 cm in addition and 4/5 cm of extra reclinability
    • Economy Comfort seats Intercontinental: 10 cm in addition and 4/5 cm of extra reclinability
    • Places Extraspace: until 61 cm more than the standard and 12.5 cm of reclinability
    • Europe Business Class: until 7.5 cm extra for the legs and 12.5 cm of reclinability

Finally, the highest class, World Business Class, for intercontinental flights offers maximum comfort: inches are over the 80 and the reclinability is total, up to 200/207 centimeters.

    British Airways

    map places british airways

First Class appears with British Airways and it's the first places at the head of the aircraft, there is considerable space here and seats, totally reclining, turn into a real bed.

Next comes Club World, which would be Business, then we have World Travellers Plus, equivalent to Premium Economy, and finally World Traveler, equivalent to Economy.

The inches in Economy have significantly reduced, after the introduction of two extra rows of seats on the Airbus A320 and A321. This went from 76,2 a 73.7 centimeters, with a gain of 12 more places.

    Lufthansa

    Lufthansa a330-300

In the image we can admire a Airbus A330-300, used by Lufthansa for long-haul routes.

Starting from the head we have 30 seats in business class, then the area refreshment and bathrooms. Next are 12 more seats in Business followed by the 28 in the Premium Economy and by those of Economy.

Lufthansa's economy seats offer. 76.2 centimeters for our legs increasing by 10/15 centimeters for Premium Economy, for Business on the other hand we have recliners and plenty of space.

With regard to short/medium-haul flights, the following are mainly used Airbus A320 with about 180/200 seats, where we have Business Class at the top and Economy at the tail but the inches are the same as Premium Economy and Economy on long-haul aircraft.

    Iberia

    map places iberia

The centimeters for Iberia change depending on the destination; the medium- and short-haul aircraft are the A319, A320, A320 Neo, and A321 and are divided into:

    • Business Class: armchair with 74/76 centimeters for the legs and 8/12 centimeters of seat recline
    • Tourism: 71/76 cm of legroom and 0/5 cm of seat recline

As for long-haul flights, the A330-300, A330-200, A340-600 and A350 are operational and are divided into:

    • Business Plus: fully reclining armchair in bed of 200 centimeters With separator for center rows
    • Premium Economy: 94 centimeters of legroom and 18 centimeters of backrest recline
    • Economy: 77/81 centimeters of legroom and 13/15 centimeters of reclinability

    Emirates

    map emirates seats

The seating arrangement on this A380 B777-200LR makes us admire the 8 private suites in First Class at the head of the plane, among the most luxurious in the world, allowing us to have as much space as we want without worrying too much about reclining seats or 10 centimeters extra for the legs.

This is followed by as many luxurious and comfortable Business Class sleeper seats, and further back, sometimes we find Premium Economy and sometimes just Economy, depending on the aircraft and route chosen.

As for Economy class, the available legroom reaches almost the 80 centimeters.

    Qatar

    map places Qatar

Unfortunately, many airlines, Qatar included, have decided to say goodbye to theA380, the world's largest aircraft, which operated for long routes. A decision due to a desire to focus on smaller models and efficient, such as the A350-1000 (for long routes), A350s and Boeing 787s.

In general, for both long and medium/short routes, Qatar Airways' aircraft are very spacious and provide for private cabins and premium places to sleep for intercontinental routes.

As for First and Business Class, the space is more than 2 meters And the beds are wide respectively 83 e 76 inches. In Economy Class, on the other hand, we have from the 78 at 81 centimeters.

If you are greedy for space then you just have to book in First e Business, although still some airlines offer comfort even in Economy. On the other hand, if space is not enough for you, then why not book a flight in this stunning luxury jet designed by Massari Studio?
