The announcement informed all users that as of 11:59 p.m. today, June 8, 2021, the partnership between Amex and the technology resale giant would end.
IMPORTANT We would like to inform you that the dedicated MediaWorld Online points site - accessible from the Membership Rewards® rewards catalog
and reserved for Amex Holders enrolled in the Membership Rewards Club - will be irrevocably decommissioned on June 8, 2021.
As an Amex Holder enrolled in the Membership Rewards Club, you may use the points you hold to claim the rewards available within the aforementioned site until 11:59:59 p.m. on June 8, 2021.
Prizes claimed by that date will be delivered to you on the terms and in the manner provided within the Rules and Regulations of the "Membership Rewards®" Sweepstakes, which can be found at www.americanexpress.it/clubmr
After the above date, the MediaWorld Online dot site will no longer be accessible or usable in any way.
How the partnership worked
There was a dedicated site for American Express cardholders that allowed them to shop by paying with points instead of euros. In this article, in which we tell how to use and how NOT to use the points, we had explained how this practice was not the most convenient.
...we want to buy an iPhone 11 128 gb, its cost in points is 189k MR, a counter value of 756€, while the same phone on the official apple store costs 890€. As we can see a saving of 134€, this is therefore a better conversion than the shop with points, but still remains a solution to avoid....
In conclusion
We won't miss this partnership at all, but the closing of the partnership is still not a good sign, as it loses another of the small/big benefits associated with the use of Amex cards. We will see if and how it will be replaced. Perhaps with a series of Stores without cashiers also in Italy as in the U.S..
