Great news for those planning to travel to Israel. July could be the month of reopenings, as well as in Thailand and to Bali. Recent statements bode well for tourists around the world. However, it is not yet time to book their vacation. In fact, all the details for the reopening program have yet to be discussed.
"I am happy that the hard work of the staff of the Ministry of Tourism, together with the staff of the Ministry of Health, Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of the Interior, has led the minister of the Interior to declare that the requirements for tourists who are already vaccinated will be relaxed, so as to allow for an increase in the admissions starting July 1".
These are the words of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Orit Farkash-Hacohen in a tweet published Friday, June 11. "The time has come for Israel to reopen its doors to tourism and take advantage of its vaccinated status for the sake of its economy."
Trip to Israel in July
Also pushing in the direction of reopening to tourists in less than a month is Arye Deris, Minister of the Interior. In fact, in a letter he explained that he had consulted at length with the minister of health, other colleagues and professionals and decided to allow access to vaccinated tourists from a certain number of countries, identified by the government.
According to a representative of the Ministry of Tourism explained to The Jerusalem Post, the decision made will not require further government approval. Another valuable piece of information concerns the number of tourists allowed. There will be no limit in this regard. The only restrictions will be representative of vaccine receipt and country of origin.
Limited access, the rules
Access in Israel will therefore only be allowed to vaccinated tourists from a certain list of countries specified by the local government. No clearance was granted to those who, having had Covid-19, recovered and developed the necessary antibodies. The green light concerns only those who have received the required two doses.
Newly admitted tourists will have to carry a valid and recognized document attesting to their vaccination. This, however, will not cancel the requirement for a Covid test, which must be done within 72 hours of departure.
Everything seems ready for the implementation of this plan for Israel's tourism revitalization. However, there is no shortage of questions still unanswered. A government representative explained how there are still discussions to be faced in the coming days.
What vaccines will Israel accept? Will one need a serological test to prove the presence of antibodies in one's body and avoid the mandatory quarantine period? Which countries will be approved in relation to where tourists come from?
The direction taken is well understood, although a member of the Ministry of Health said he was against the widespread announcement. A premature move: "Many details have yet to be discussed and obviously the new government will have a strong impact on what will be decided." As of today, July 1 is the target, though not a confirmed date for reopening.
