We had announced it in recent months, now the date of July 1 is upon us. Starting next Thursday, the holders of Priority Pass will no longer have access to the VIP lounge in Rome Fiumicino Terminal 3.
What changes from next month
It is not only the Fiumicino lounge that is closing its doors to Priority Pass holders, but it is all Premium Plaza group lounges around the world that are leaving the PP network. For Italian users who hold American Express Platino, it will still be possible to continue access by presenting their credit card, as well as for holders of Lounge Buddy, which is the card competing with Priority Pass that in Italy is included in the benefits of Nexi prestige cards.
A total of 57 lounges are disappearing from the PP portfolio, it is possible to consult here the full list. In addition to Rome, goodbye to five lounges at London Heathrow Airport in terminals 2, 3, and 4. Priority Pass, however, has not been idle and in recent months has added many loung,e starting with the brand new VIP lounge at Bergamo airport.
Fiumicino lounge
For Italian passengers, this is a painful loss, especially for those who do not have elite status with Alitalia or other Skyteam companies, requirement that would allow access to the former national airline's main lounge. Moreover, in these pandemic months, Terminal 3, generally used for non-EU flights, was the only one operating at the Roman airport. The lounge in question was the only one open having AZ closed all its proprietary lounges for more than 18 months.
The other Priority Pass lounge in the terminal, the Prima Vista Lounge, has been closed for a long time during this period and according to the PP app is expected to be reopened albeit with reduced hours.
