After a wait of many, many years, the first 737max in Ryanair's fleet: the first of 210 planes that will enter service over the next few years to replace the current model the 737/300, the workhorse of the Irish airline that has taught all of Europe the meaning of the word low-cost.

It took off in the night today from the Seattle factory and landed a few minutes after 6 p.m. Irish local time, after a 9-hour flight.
At the moment, it is unclear where the new 737maxes will be located; there is talk of Bergamo as first base Italian to receive the new model. What seems certain is that Ryanair seems directed to have a flexible policy toward passengers who will prefer not to travel on this model to fear of more accidents.
"We are so confident about this plane, so confident that our passengers will want to travel on this model, that we will allow them to change if they do not want to travel on a MAX," said Michael O'Leary, CEO of Ryanair. "They will not receive a refund, but they will be able to travel on the next available flight on that route.
"We are delighted to take delivery of our first next-generation Gamchanger aircraft. These new Boeing 737s will help Ryanair reduce costs, fuel consumption, and noise and CO2 emissions. It all translates into significant investments in new technologies to increase our environmental commitment as Europe's greenest and cleanest airline. Each B737 aircraft offers 197 seats (compared to our current 189-seat 737 fleet). However, our customers will enjoy more legroom, new Boeing "Sky Interiors," and lower fares while reducing their environmental impact by switching to these new aircraft. Due to unfortunate delays in deliveries, we expect to receive only 12 of these aircraft during the summer of 2021, including 6 in Ryanair livery and 6 in Malta Air livery."
Ryanair expects to have 50 more of these "Gamechanger" B737s available before summer 2022.
