According to a Bloomberg report, the Switzerland should be the last country in Europe to open to vaccinated tourists. As of June 28, it is expected that travelers who have received the vaccine will be allowed entry. It is not yet official but it is thought that the reopening is also imminent because France and Italy have already done so. The Swiss government has yet to finalize its plan to reopen, but a final decision is expected on June 23.

Switzerland's proposals for reopening to tourists

It is worth mentioning that Switzerland is not part of the European Union, but falls within the Schengen area, so classic restrictions are still applied to prevent new infections. The Federal Council has sent for consultation a series of proposals to facilitate the entry into Switzerland. The government has also proposed The lifting of the outdoor mask requirement., an increase in the number of people per table in restaurants, the partial reopening of nightclubs, and a relaxation of capacity restrictions imposed on stores and leisure facilities. The Swiss federal government's goal is to increase the number of participants at large events to 3,000 people indoors and 5,000 outdoors. To participate, however, a Covid-19 vaccination certificate is required.

As of last week, at least close to the border strip with Italy, Swiss citizens can enter and stay for up to 24 without the need to be swabbed. "The light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer," stresses the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, "The improvement in the situation is due to the prudence of the population and the vaccination campaign. Today, if only adults are considered, the fully vaccinated are 31% of the population, those who have received the first dose are 50%. In the next three weeks another 2 million doses will arrive in Switzerland, half a million of them already tomorrow."

The referendum against the Covid-19 law

Italy is not part of the list of countries defined as a Covid-19 risk area. To enter Switzerland, it is sufficient to submit the result of a negative PCR test made before departure and within 72 hours before arrival. Just today, June 14, the Swiss voted in favor of the referendum regarding the national anti-Covid law that went into effect last September. A citizens' committee had launched a referendum against this legislation, the legal basis for ordinances issued by the government to deal with the pandemic. The Covid-19 law gave the Federal Council (government) additional powers to combat the pandemic and contains a wide range of measures to mitigate its economic impact on people and businesses, with the payment of several billion in compensation. The law does not cover vaccinations and is limited in duration: in fact, almost all of its provisions will expire at the end of 2021.
