Thailand is ready to go again and, specifically, will do so with Phuket. Here is the first step from July 2021, so as to kick-start the recovery of the tourism sector, with a view to open doors in each region by October.
It's going to be a really complex summer of strategies to succeed in attracting as many tourists as possible. Every country needs to find its travelers. So here is the announcement of an intriguing offer regarding a vacation package to Phuket, the first mandatory stop, from July, to return to discover the wonders of Thailand. The name chosen is explanatory: one night, one dollar, that is, one night at a cost of only one dollar.
In Phuket with a dollar
The tourism sector has long had a huge impact on Thailand's economy, accounting for one-fifth of the local economy. Reviving this area is therefore vital. Phuket is set to reopen its doors in less than a month. July is the month chosen for a facilitated return, free of certain restrictions. A great advantage, in order to make the upcoming vacation as similar as possible to what the world used to indulge in until the summer of 2019.
As always, deals are a great incentive to beguile tourists and convince them not to land on other shores. All eyes are on Phuket, on whose shoulders rest the fate of a key economic operation for the foreseeable future. An opening as much as three months earlier than the rest of the country, which aims to ensure a 70% vaccination of the local population.
Should you decide to take advantage of the open doors from July 1, you could take advantage of the new proposal from the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT): one night, one dollar. An initiative that allows you to get a generous deal, to say the least: at certain hotels you will be able to stay by paying as little as one dollar for your first night (reservations require a minimum of 7 nights).
One night, one dollar: what do we know
It is expected to be a net loss, considering how tariffs usually charge from $32 to $96, approx. (€26 to €78, approx.). A financial gap that the government is ready to restore with subsidies, running to the rescue of hotel businesses, up to a maximum of THB 3,000, or about $100.
To date it is a proposal. It is expected to be approved quickly. Should the green light come for this campaign, the financial outcomes will be carefully analyzed. Phuket could set an example for reopenings in the coming months. It cannot be ruled out, therefore, that the "one night, one dollar" offer could later involve also Bangkok, Pattaya e Koh Samui, as well as other destinations.
Estimates for the coming months are not the most generous. About 500 thousand tourists are expected to arrive July to the end of 2021. A very small number, considering the more than 6 million visitors who set foot in Thailand during 2020, mainly in the first part. Before the pandemic, the numbers were much larger, with about 40 million tourists and $60 billion in revenue.
