With the opening of Ryanair's base, Treviso Airport resumes commercial flight operations, which were interrupted during the months of drastic traffic reduction following the pandemic crisis.
With the summer season, which for air travel runs from late March to late October, Canova's traffic also began a gradual recovery, aided by the widespread and effective vaccination campaign, the elimination of the 5-day quarantine for those entering Italy from European countries, and the Next European Green Pass (July 1).
A total of 62 destinations will be served, including 48 by Ryanair and 14 by Wizzair, higher than in summer 2019.
Ryanair's new Treviso base includes:
- 2 aircraft based
- 48 routes in total (5 domestic/43 international), of which 22 will be new routes (3 domestic/19 international)
For the occasion, Benetton Rugby Treviso players towed a Boeing 737 for a few dozen meters.
Enrico Marchi, president of SAVE Group said, "Today is an important day for Canova Airport and for the Venice-Treviso Airport System, which resumes full and coordinated operational functionality after more than a year of traffic gridlock. The decision to concentrate the few remaining flights in Venice had been necessary, but we have always reassured in recent months that Canova would reopen when the passengers were there. And indeed here we are today, together with Ryanair, confirming what we had announced in the press conference last December, demonstrating once again the seriousness of careful, rigorous management consistent with the intentions expressed and the word given. The past year has highlighted even more the fundamental importance of an airport for the mobility and allied industries of the served territory, which has been clamoring for the reopening of Canova, and we are pleased to point out that today's result is the result of the joint work carried out with Mayor Mario Conte and Councillor Federico Caner. With them, with the institutions, the representatives of the territory, and the airlines, we will continue to work to develop the airport in an unavoidable and shared perspective of sustainability, through the adoption of technological solutions oriented to the reduction of the environmental impact and continuing to generate positive effects on employment and the economy of the area."
