In recent days, cardholders of American Express credit cobranded with Alitalia have received an email which, in light of developments between the current company in receivership and ITA, warns owners that at the moment it is uncertain what end they will serve and whether they can still be used.

Following the recent announcement by the Ministry of Economy and Finance regarding the upcoming start of operations of the new company Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA), we confirm that we will continue to take care of the relationship with our Holders even during the transition from Alitalia to the new company ITA.

Please note, in any case, that Your Card is issued directly by American Express and, as a Cardholder, you can therefore continue to use it throughout the network of affiliated establishments both in Italy and abroad, without any change to the operation of the payment instrument.
The most obvious thing that will happen is that these cards will continue to be able to be used by cardholders, but will no longer allow them to accumulate points in the Millemiglia program. Within a few weeks, after October 24, Amex will contact the various cardholders to offer to change the card to a standard one linked to the Membership Rewards program.
The other scenario is that an option is offered, if you are already enrolled in what will be ITA's new frequent flyer program, to switch to the new cards that may be issued.
In the meantime, AMEX, to give all holders a treat, has issued special offers valid not only for existing holders, but also for new cards issued by September 15
