L'highest hotel in the world opened its doors last June 19 in Shanghai: it is the J Hotel Shanghai Tower.

In this article:

Located on the upper floors of the Shanghai Tower, which at 632 meters is the tallest building in all of China, boasts 165 rooms, including 34 suites. Available to guests are a personal butler available 24/7 and an indoor swimming pool. Plus Hermes and Diptyque designer toiletries, a luxury spa for Reiki treatments and Chinese tea services in every room.

The highest hotel in the world offers four types of suites. The most luxurious (and expensive) is the Shanghai Suite, which measures an impressive 380 square meters and-in addition to the bedroom-includes a living room, study, kitchen, massage area and walk-in closet. Its price? Strictly top secret. Known prices, however, range from €403 per night for the least expensive rooms to nearly €7,600 for the J Suite.

On the dining front, the J Hotel Shanghai Tower offers. seven different restaurants: the Cantonese Heavenly Jin on the 120th floor, Japanese and Italian restaurants, and tea rooms. But it is the whole location that is extraordinary. Located in the heart of Lujiazui, Shanghai's financial center, it occupies the 84th to 105th full of the Shanghai Tower, in addition to the 120th (reserved for the restaurant). The views take your breath away: that of the spa (located on the 84th and 85th floors), the bedrooms, and the restaurants with their open kitchens.

The height, then, is record-breaking. And to think that, in 2018, the Guinness World Record certified Dubai's Gevora Hotel (which measures "only" 356 meters) as the world's tallest hotel.

Why book the J Hotel Shanghai Tower with your Amex

The J Hotel is owned by Jin Jiang International, one of China's state-owned tourism companies. Above all, however, it is part of the The Leading Hotels of the World (themselves part of American Express' Fine Hotels + Resorts program).

Amex holders, by staying in The Leading Hotels of the World, are entitled to several benefits:

    • Exclusive giveaways (typically, a $100 credit to spend in the facilities' restaurants or spa)
    • breakfast for 2 people, daily
    • check-out delayed to 4 p.m.
    • Room upgrades, if available at the time of check-in
    • Early check-in at 12 noon, subject to availability
    • Free Wi-Fi

In order to access the Fine program Hotels + Resorts it is necessary to have a Centurion card, or a Platinum card (personal or business).

Currently, the J Hotel has not yet been included among the facilities belonging to the program. But, presumably, it is only a matter of time. Shanghai, after all, is not only liked by tourists but is among the most popular destinations for business tourism. In all likelihood, those traveling with Amex Centurion or Platinum will be able to "collect" benefits at this outstanding facility as well.

For every euro spent at one of The Leading Hotels of the World, you earn one Membership Rewards point (points, these, which cannot, however, be spent on your own stays at this property).
