In a world where everything undergoes a long and laborious editing process, it is difficult to trust what you see. Anyone can make sharp changes to what is filmed, whether for private or business purposes. From influencers to large corporations, everyone edits productions enormously. This is why the latest commercial by Emirates raised not a few doubts.
Something the Dubai-based carrier had obviously planned. In addition to shooting the intriguing commercial "We're on top of the world", has in fact prepared a detailed behind-the-scenes report so as to show the world how there was nothing fake about it. The feat enacted is totally real.
We're on top of the world: Emirates
It is hard to imagine that anyone has not yet seen and enjoyed the Emirates branded commercial. If that were the case, you can see a woman wearing the official uniform of the company's flight attendants. She is holding some signs in her hands but the great peculiarity is that she is standing on top of the Burj Khalifa. The famous skyscraper, built in 2010 in Dubai, is still the highest in the world today.
The primary goal of the commercial is certainly to impress potential travelers. As for the message shown in favor of the room, it announces the choice to allow some Forty-free flights between Britain, Italy and the United Arab Emirates: "All this made us feel on top of the world." This is what the woman in the center of the frame, who appears totally at ease, expresses. However, the perspective suddenly changes and the frame widens. Here it is revealed exactly where the footage was shot. On the web everyone cried green screen, but things turned out differently.
Emirates: behind the scenes
There was no need for any green screen. The Emirates commercial left no room for special effects. The few seconds shown are the result of work worthy of Hollywood, closely recalling the operations required for "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol", from 2011, when Tom Cruise actually climbed the Burj Khalifa.
At the center of the scene is not an actual flight attendant, who would probably have been terrified at the idea of finding herself at such heights, one step from death if she made a mistake. Her name is Nicole Smith-Ludvik, yoga instructor, skydiver, hiker and traveler. A true adventurer who did not pass up the chance to be immortalized in a commercial destined to go viral (which actually happened): "This was, without a doubt, one of the most exhilarating experiences I have completed. Kudos go to Emirates Airlines for this idea. It was a pleasure to be part of the team."
The backstage video highlights how everything is absolutely real. "Hi Mom, I'm on top of the world." These are Smith-Ludvik's words once she was put in place and secured by the necessary harnesses. Great courage, his, in finding himself a full 828 meters high. All of this, however, required a lot of rehearsal, which was carried out safely, just a few meters above the ground, inside a huge warehouse. The stunt movements were carefully studied, with the technical staff making sure Nicole's ability to remain as still as possible while keeping great balance. Starting at level 160, a long climb began, taking more than 1 hour. All this to create one of the most incredible spots in the world.
