Goodbye connection between Linate and London City Airport, but also to all connections between Milan City Airport and the United Kingdom, this is one of the unexpected consequences of Brexit.
Pictured above is the British Airways lounge present at the airport, a lounge that has been closed since the pandemic outbreak and may never be opened again, as the airline will likely no longer be able to operate direct connections to the United Kingdom.
Of course, not only British Airways' connections will disappear, but also those of Alitalia and every other airline, since Linate airport is, by law, authorized to operate only EU connections.
The "blame" lies with the Delrio Decree on the "Distribution of air traffic on the Milan airport system." In 2016 it was presented for the development of Milan's airport system-Malpensa, Linate and Bergamo. Article 4 states that "Community carriers may operate scheduled point-to-point connections, using single-aisle aircraft, between Linate and other EU airports."
This uncertainty about the future of connections, thanks to ad hoc regulations or last-minute extensions, is countered by one certainty, which is that airlines continue to sell tickets as if nothing is wrong and without warning passengers of the risk of having to reschedule the flight from an airport other than Linate.
