In the end, the Christo's dream came true. The artist, who died in 2020 in New York and became famous in Italy for his catwalk on Lake Maggiore, dreamed of wrapping theArc de Triomphe Parisian. A kind of posthumous work, now realized.
Here, then, are those who are considering a trip to Paris, now has one more reason to go there. An opportunity, the last, to see up close the work of one of the greatest artists of our century.

The Arc de Triomphe packed by Christo
Sixty years later, the Arc de Triomphe wrapped by Christo has become a reality. And, now, those flying to Paris can walk down the Champs-Elysées and see one of the city's symbols (commissioned by Napoleon and 50 meters high) covered with 25 thousand square meters of silver and blue fabric. The name of the work? "The Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped," of course.
Visitable through Oct. 3, the work was to be inaugurated in 2020. Then the pandemic messed up the plans, Christo disappeared, and everything slipped. So, the artist father of that project did not get to see it. He couldn't see that idea born in the 1960s turn into reality, when right near the Arc de Triomphe he rented a small room after fleeing Bulgaria. It was there, that he met his beloved Jeanne-Claude, his companion in life and work.
The first photomontage of the packed Arc de Triomphe dates back to 1962. The second is dated 1988. But, it was not until September 18, 2021, that Christo's team was able to realize the idea. To do so, it took 25 thousand square meters of silver blue polypropylene fabric e 3 thousand meters of red recyclable rope. "A large living object, stimulated by wind and light reflections," is how Christo envisioned his Arc de Triomphe. "People will want to touch it," he said.
And, because Christo was pursuing the idea of art that was accessible to all, visiting the opera is free. You can admire it from below, or climb to its rooftop terrace also covered in fabric. Thus becoming an integral part of a dream realized.

Staying in Paris, the new openings
Where to stay in Paris? The Ville Lumiere is seeing the emergence (and rebirth) of extraordinary hotels. If the Ritz by Coco Chanel, the Crillon and the Lutetia - all freshly redesigned - are confirmed among the world's best hotels, anticipation is high for the Thierry Gillier's first hotel (CEO of Zadig & Voltaire). Château Voltaire, at 55 Rue Roch, boasts 31 rooms, facing the Opera and overlooking the rooftops of Paris. Also coming in late 2021 is the Madame Rêve, a new five-star hotel carved out of the Louvre's former post office: 82 rooms and suites, restaurants and clubs under the direction of Laurent Taïeb (Kong's former signature, seen in the famous Paris episode of "Sex and the City"). While, on Sept. 7, it opened the long-awaited Cheval Blanc, 72 rooms overlooking the Seine and two apartments with swimming pools, as well as a signature Dior spa, the result of LVMH's acquisition of the building.
