Review Moxy Lisbon, perfect for young wanderers

Those who read TFC often will surely have noticed a preference of mine for structures Under the Marriott Group's Moxy sign..

These hotels are designed for the new generation of tourists, today's young people, and place great emphasis on the design of common areas and essentiality in the rooms.

This Lisbon Moxy is no exception, as they are all new structures designed with the same pen around the world.

Reservation

As always, when you want to get the most privileges from these hotel chains, you have to book through the official channels. Thanks to my Amex Platinum credit card, I can take advantage of Gold status at all Marriott group hotels and maximize my Bonvoy points collection.

Booking from the official app is quick and easy. Everything is done in just 3 clicks. Of course it was also possible to book using Bonvoy points, but it was not the case to use them for a one-night reservation in a hotel that paid cash cost less than 80€.

Thanks to the Amex Platinum you get Gold status in the Marriott loyalty program, a benefit that results in more points, upgrades and other advantages when staying in the hotel chain's facilities.

Check-in

What is unique about Moxy Hotels is that there is no reception desk, or rather in the center of the space there is usually a bar counter that doubles as a reception desk and kitchen.

Upon my arrival, the two guys behind the counter took care of me. While the first completed the check-in paperwork, including verifying the Green pass, the second prepared a welcome cocktail for me.

That's the different mood at these facilities: a sense of informality, a way Marriott winks at young people. 

The structure

Being in Lisbon only for a quick stopover and not a real stop over, I looked for a solution close to the airport. 

The hotel is located in front of Lisbon's central bus station, also a meeting point with the railway, and is less than 8 minutes by cab from the airport.

In all the Moxy's I have visited, the ground floor is the highlight, the idea is to be a hotel without looking like a hotel.

From the table football in the window, to the neon lights, from the big screen to the mega wooden table with power outlets that can serve for business meetings or seat 20 diners on occasion. Even from the outside, the tower that houses the hotel is beautiful to look at and, once the skyscraper nearby is completed, will also have an attached urban park.

The room

This is the first time I have been disappointed with the room, these facilities as mentioned are very similar to each other, the bathroom is identical in all the places I have visited. But this time the hanging bed, which is kind of the signature of this chain, didn't have that usual wow effect.

Likewise, there was something about the mattress that didn't sit well with me and didn't allow me to sleep as well as usual.

Otherwise, usual big screen and ultra-minimal decor with an eye for design. The other aspect that did not convince me was the fact that the wall covered by the window had only a small portion of window, while everything else was wall.

In conclusion

It is definitely a back-up facility for an early morning flight, convenient to get to or potentially attractive to singles or otherwise young people who will spend little time in the hotel and a lot of time around the Portuguese capital.

On the contrary, both because of its location and services, I do not find it suitable for families or couples who are also looking for a place to relax after a busy Portuguese day.
