After obtaining in recent days the green light from the U.S. Department of Transportation, and awaiting the official date of the reopening of U.S. borders to Europeans, as of today ITA has started ticket sales for its intercontinental flights to the USA, where it will operate routes from Rome Fiumicino to New York JFK.
It starts on November 4, with 6 flights per week: Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 10:00 a.m. from Rome, to depart New York every Monday, Friday, and Sunday at 4:55 p.m. This will increase to 10 weekly connections in early December, while over the Christmas period, two connections per day will operate, to be exact from December 20, 2021 to January 9, 2022.
Flights will be operated with a 250-seat Airbus A330 configured in three classes of service: Business, Premium Economy and Economy. Until the new A330/900s and A350s arrive, they will be Alitalia's older aircraft configured with the Magnifica, Classica + and Classica cabin.
Beginning in March 2022, flights will start. From Rome Fiumicino to Miami and Boston and from Milan Malpensa to New York JFK. A Rome Fiumicino - Los Angeles route is planned to be launched in summer 2022.
At the start of operations next October 15, ITA will serve 44 destinations with 59 routes rising to 74 destinations and 89 routes in 2025, concluding the process of rebalancing flights to the long-haul sector aimed at closing the country's connectivity gap.
ITA does not currently participate in any alliance no collaborative agreements have been announced for Connecting flights to other U.S. destinations, flights that instead are there with Delta already now partnering with AZ in the SkyTeam alliance.
