US introduces first non-binary passport: it will have gender X

The USA, always been more sensitive on the subject of individual and collective rights, are ready to embrace a change which will be inevitable for the future, both for Italy and for the entire world population.

The U.S. State Department, in fact, said it has released the first U.S. passport with a gender X, giving the option of choosing for one's travel document, a gender other than "male" or "female."

This choice was made to allow people non-binary, intersex or otherwise not conforming to the canonical "male/female" gender, to be able to feel comfortable toward a document of recognition International.

The U.S. , however, was not the first to introduce this innovation, the predecessors being Australia, Canada, Germany and India, which already allow its citizens to select a third gender, other than male and female, on official documents.

Gender neutrality in airlines

Even the airlines are moving in a more inclusive direction, there are many examples we can find among the skies.

The first major airline to change the way people were addressed on board was Air Canada, the classic "good morning ladies and gentlemen" has been replaced as of 2019 with "good morning everyone," just as it is on flights of Japan Airlines and recently also of Lufthansa, Play and Swiss.

The low-cost airlines WOW Air and Play Airlines have gone even further, introducing uniforms "neutral" flight attendants can wear what they prefer, without distinction Between men's uniforms or women's uniforms.

How does the new gender X US passport work?

On the U.S. government website travel.state.gov reads that the issuance of a passport with gender X no longer requires a medical certificate and can also be applied for if the document supporting the passport (ID card or driver's license) shows a male or female gender.

As mentioned, still Option X is not fully operational, it will be in 2022, in the meantime we hope that many more countries will join this initiative and accept that the world has now changed.
