November is a key month for tourism in Israel. Doors open to all vaccinated foreigners, as long as they have received a full course. That means two doses for all recognized serums, except for Johnson & Johnson, which provides only one inoculation. Since the beginning of the pandemic Israel has been seen as one of the countries that can guarantee the best response to health emergency. It thus returns to welcome large numbers of tourists from all over the world, while ensuring maximum security.
Travel to Israel from Italy, what to know
The reopening to vaccinated tourists is great news for the travel market, which is now set to experience the Christmas season. The weather in Israel is still pleasant, which will prompt so many to book a flight to the Holy Land.
Here is a clear and simple outline of the entry rules for tourists:
- You must not have stayed in or transited any of the red list countries during the 14 days prior to arrival. Entry must be through Ben Gurion Airport.
- You must have received a full course of one of the WHO-approved vaccines, i.e., Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, Covishield, Sinopharm, Sinovac)
- Mandatory a PCR test made up to 72 hours before the outbound flight
- Required a "declaration of entry" before departure
- New PCR test upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport.
To be considered fully vaccinated you must have received the second dose by at least 14 days. In the event that six months have elapsed since the second inoculation, proof of undergoing the third dose (for at least two weeks). Absolutely forbidden entry for unvaccinated individuals, except for children up to 4 years of age.
Covid: fourth wave
Israel appears to be continuing its vaccination campaign in a more than egregious manner. In fact, the country is currently holding off the fourth wave of Covid-19. The start of the inoculation of the third dose of vaccine is having its effect. According to data provided by the Ministry of Health, there are 472 positives out of 70,204 tests, which relegates the 0.68% infection rate. Also in sharp decline are the severe cases, a total of 219. The vaccination campaign is proceeding, and Israelis with third doses number about 4 million.
No risks of any kind are intended. That is why shortly the issuance of the Green Pass will cover only those vaccinated with a third dose: "We have learned in the field how vaccination has an effect for 5-6 months. That is why the Green Pass is issued only to those who still have active protection. That is why we have started the inoculation of the third dose. By doing so we are going to upgrade the certificate."
These are the words of Alon Simhayoff, deputy chief of mission of the Embassy of Israel, who explained how there is no real risk to tourists today, as most of the population is vaccinated even with the third dose. "There is a possibility of new variants, but it is a risk we feel we are taking and we will monitor the situation more closely," he said.
