It took until the day of the deadline, and even going beyond it, to make a decision that, given the outcry from American and other airlines, was a foregone conclusion.
The telephone companies have postponed until a later date the switch-on of 5G telephony bridges around more than 100 U.S. airports.
What happened
For months, American companies had been sounding the alarm., Boeing had warned that nearly its entire fleet of long-range aircraft could experience possible anomalies in the sensors used to take off and land the aircraft. The FAA, the civil authority that regulates aviation in the U.S. skies, had mandated that companies disable autopilot and perform "On Sight" landings.
An escalation that had led to so many flight cancellations and forced airlines that had the ability to do so to change the planes used to fly to the US.
In the end, however, the signal switch on yesterday was not there and was postponed pending further study, although it seems a difficult skein to unravel.
The return of flights
All the airlines that had announced cancellations and changes have rectified the position. Thus Emirates will resume flying its 777s true to the 9 cut American airports. The same thing will be done by ANA and JAL and all other carriers that had suspended flights immediately for fear of accidents.
