Airlines are increasingly looking for a sustainable soul. On the ground as well as in the air, we have seen in recent years, partly because of the pandemic, a quest like never before to lower the environmental impact of flights.
Obviously, grounding old and less performing aircraft was the first, obvious solution and Air France has done so by saying goodbye to its fleet of A380s.
But for zeroing the carbon footprint companies have done everything. We have seen, for example, EasyJet with its uniforms made of recycled plastic Or like many loyalty programs, including Flying Blue, have decided to eliminate the physical card for its members by only going digital.
Also Virgin Atlantic aboard its upper class tributes passengers with an impactful, nearly zero-impact beauty kit, and today AF announced a similar solution for all its flights.
What the old beauty kit looked like
The old clutch bags were made of velvet in two colors, the same shades found aboard the cabin of AF aircraft.
I am always curious about what they contain and the I keep like relics, because each carrier surprises me each time with an item that I do not find on the next flight. In this case the novelty was the shoehorn. For the rest: eye mask, earplugs, socks, pen, Clarins hand cream and face cream, toothbrush and toothpaste, and a cloth to clean my glasses.
Air France's new clutch bag
The new kit will be composed for the 93% from recycled material, two shades will be maintained: navy blue and gray. No visible brand name, just the company's historic winged seahorse emblem.
Each kit contains one toothbrush and a pen made of cornstarch And earplugs packaged in kraft paper, eliminating the use of plastic. The sleeping mask, socks, toothpaste and Clarins cosmetics remain included, of course. No more shoehorn or even eyeglass cloth.
Also renewed the kit for customers traveling in the Premium Economy cabin, which turns dark blue with a sporty look. The kit features the accent, a symbol of the Air France brand, in red or blue versions. The contents of this kit have also been adapted in the same plastic-free spirit: toothbrush made of cornstarch and earplugs packed in kraft paper, sleeping mask and a pair of socks.
In all cabins, the plastic packaging of each kit is now replaced by a tamper-proof seal. Further helping to reduce the use of plastic on board.
