Air France and KLM's loyalty program has been one of the most active in recent pandemic years. In fact, in the past 24 months, all Flying Blue status holders have enjoyed ex officio renewal of the elite level held. Twice as many XP points were also being given away in 2021., promotion also renewed This year though slightly less generous.
Not all changes, however, are ameliorative, indeed often when making changes for the worse they try to hide the bad news in the small print standards, hoping that few people will notice.
What changes for Flying Blue loyalty program members in 2022
Historically, Flying Blue Elite status has always been valid for 15 months, even though the qualifying period was 12 months.
For example, having obtained Gold status, the retraining period was one year to maintain the level or upgrade to Platinum. Even if one failed to earn the XP needed for the level, Gold benefits remained valid for another 3 months. So in fact you could use the benefits for 3 months longer than the standard validity. Which is no longer possible.
In conclusion
This change makes the French/Dutch program slightly worse; three more free months were definitely better than the current situation.
