The future of documents is digital. It is a road long since taken, that of online identification, as is well demonstrated by the widespread use of SPID in our country. Apple is trying to get ahead of the curve, however, by making strides on the front of uploading identification documents to Apple Wallet, as announced in 2021.

Late last year Apple had opened up the possibility of adding digital identification documents to Apple Wallet. A process that is not complex, indeed, somewhat similar to adding new credit cards or travel tickets. All that will be required is a click on the "+" sign, and then scanning the document in question.
However, Apple explained how very strict biometric safeguards will be implemented, so as to protect users' information and, at the same time, offer certainty that the uploaded document actually belongs to the user in question. The process also requires a selfie, which will then be securely sent to the issuing state in order to verify the indicated identity. To make it even more secure, facial and head movements will have to be made, so as not to allow for fraud and identity theft.
