Southeast Asia has now embarked on the road to reopening to the rest of the world, the first nation to open to tourists last July was Thailand. Since then, omicron permitting, countries in the ASEAN region have slowly taken similar paths with different protocols.

Today it is Malaysia's turn, with the prime minister announcing that as of April 1 the nation will reopen its borders to all vaccinated travelers without any quarantine or restrictions.
From April 1, there will be no more restrictions for any type of traveler who has completed the vaccination cycle. There remains, however, the requirement to undergo a PCR swab performed in the previous 72 hours boarding the first flight.
The plan for unvaccinated travelers planning to travel to Kuala Lumpur and surrounding areas will also be finalized in the coming days. The country's borders have been closed since March 2020, and the entry of foreign workers has been blocked due to the pandemic. Nearly 98% of Malaysia's adult population is fully vaccinated and more than half have also received the booster dose.
