Hilton and American Express, in cooperation with the owners of hotels belonging to the U.S. group in Europe, are donating one million overnight stays across Europe to Ukrainians fleeing horrific violence in their country.
Longtime strategic partners, Hilton and American Express are providing free rooms for relief organizations such as #HospitalityHelps, which in turn will be provided to Ukrainian refugees and first responders supporting humanitarian efforts across Europe.
"Our hotels have always been part of the fabric of the communities we serve, and we are committed to supporting the places where we live and work," said Christopher J. Nassetta, president and CEO of Hilton. "Even in these dark times," he added, "we believe that the light and warmth of hospitality can make a difference when it matters most, which is why we welcome refugees and support relief efforts in countries across Europe.
American Express is investing together with Hilton to support this project in all affected areas.
"More than 2 million people have fled Ukraine and had to make the unimaginable decision to leave their homes," said American Express President and CEO Stephen J. Squeri. "While we can never replace what was lost, American Express is honored to partner again with Hilton to donate 1 million rooms to refugees and first responders affected by this devastating war. Our hope is that we can provide some relief during this incredibly difficult time."
Nassetta also thanked Hilton property owners for joining the effort. "Hilton hotel owners are eager to support their communities and have been instrumental in making this initiative possible."
