The 777X was to be Boeing's ransom plane, the model that erased the shame of the 737max and reaffirmed the American manufacturer's supremacy over Airbus and its A350.
When Lufthansa was announced as the launch customer for the 777x, Should have received the first specimens in 2019, but since then problems in the development of Boeing's new flagship have been occurring continuously, and the Max's crisis has only made everything more complicated.
The first flight of a 777x was made in 2020 and, in November 2021, the manufacturer took the "mule" around the world, mostly to airports of major airlines that ordered the model.
Of course, the first stop was Dubai, home Emirates, the carrier that took the ranks of "first customer" after Lufthansa diluted its order and especially thanks to the fact that he ordered as many as 150 specimens, that is, almost half of the 360 777x ordered to date.
And just Emirates has repeatedly threatened to cancel the order in case of yet another delay, which is what is happening now, with the announcement of the postponement of deliveries for at least another 12 months, with a total delay of more than six years.
The problem is not in the assembly line, but in the safety certification. A process that, after the 737max disaster, has become much more painstaking. The plane will be produced in two variants: the 777-8 will accommodate up to 384 passengers and have a range of 16,170 km; while the 777-9 will have 426 passengers and a range of more than 13,500 km.
So many global companies had set their sights on this model, Famous for having an unprecedentedly large wingspan and a folding wing part To facilitate movement at airports.
To date, however, all companies have partially cancelled orders, switching to other models from both Boeing and Airbus. Now yet another delay could cause an earthquake for Boeing, especially if Emirates confirms the idea of canceling its order in its entirety.
