This is one of the six lounges operated by the entire Star Alliance and not by a single airline. In the past I visited the one in Los Angeles and this lounge has some distinctive elements reminiscent of it, although the size and quality of the American one are on a different level. The others are in Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Paris (CDG) and Rio De Janeiro.

In this article:

A revolution is underway at Fiumicino, partly caused by Covid, and partly by the work in Terminal 1. In addition to the ITA Airways main lounge and to the Premium Plaza In terminal 3 there are also the lounge of British Airways And that of Emirates. In the satellite is the old Alitalia lounge that has now become Prima Vista.

It is located in the area of the A gates, the ones in the old Terminal 1, so to speak., past the now abandoned former Casa Alitalia lounge and the nearby Prima Vista Lounge.

You could get up to 600€ compensation per person

You pass the work area and it is at the end of the corridor on the left. Of course, it's more convenient if you're departing from the gates nearby, but you can still walk up to the E gates from which almost all flights out of Fiumicino are departing right now.

    Access

Of course, access is primarily for travelers from alliance carriers operating out of Fiumicino: from Lufthansa to United, Singapore Airlines to Egyptair.

At the moment, access is also possible through the Priority Pass card. In fact, the Prima Vista Lounge present in T1 is closed, which is why an agreement is in place that allows cardholders, which you get for free with American Express Platinum, to enter for free along with a possible guest, if provided by the subscription level.

    The hall

As mentioned, it is not very large, however, the style of the decor is reminiscent of the American hall.

Just as the phrases engraved on the walls and the blow-ups mark the common thread that connects all Star Alliance lounges around the world.

It overlooks the terminal, but unless you stand, you do not have a view of the runway.

All the seats near the window are armchairs with an attached coffee table and power outlet; on the opposite side, however, there are classic bar tables and stations where it is certainly more comfortable to work on a PC.

    Food & Beverage

Here I must say that the "post covid" choice was really good. I ordered a margherita pizza and it was really good.

Dishes range from pasta to pizza, from snacks to cold dishes. A varied and more than sufficient choice.

The buffet islands have been transformed into showcases where the dishes offered by the kitchen are on display.

The kitchen is on view and prepares orders one by one. It is a similar system to the one also used in the nearby Premium Plaza, although in this case, in addition to seeing the dishes, you can also order via app.

There is also a bar counter with a bartender who serves drinks, wines, and spirits, and especially makes coffee without using automatic machines.

    Services

No lounge at Fiumicino shines in terms of originality of services offered. Wi-fi and other services are available here, but showers are not.

Then there is a room where you can make phone calls without disturbing other guests.

Immediately at the entrance is the quiet zone, suitable for guests who want to relax in a more secluded and quiet area.

    In conclusion

If one is a United or Singapore Airlines passenger, perhaps it would be a foregone conclusion to expect something better. But if, as in my case, one is traveling to Genoa, it is a good alternative to the ITA Airways lounge and of equal standing to the Premium Plaza, which, however, is accessible only to Platinum Amex holders and not to everyone else.

This is just one of many reviews you can read on our site, covid and restrictions permitting. Every Wednesday we publish a review of a lounge airport, while every Friday you can read the review of one of our flights or a hotel where we stayed.

    The verdict
There are no Star Alliance group airline lounges at Rome Fiumicino, so the alliance's decision to have its own lounge to meet the needs of the group's many passengers in the Italian capital is excellent. The lounge is nice, admittedly at the moment off-center with respect to movements within the airport. Half a point up because it offers an excellent variety of hot dishes.
