Should we continue to wear face masks on airplanes? We have already had a chance to find out what the European guidelines are, which we will summarize again later. In the meantime, however, theEnac (National Civil Aviation Authority) has commented on the issue. We cannot yet rejoice, but it is good to know how it is not long, indeed, before we return to normalcy in this respect as well.

For in-flight masks, the general rule of thumb is that it all depends on the country you are headed to and the company you are traveling with. Looking at Italy, for example, there remains themandatory masking Ffp2 which must still be worn by both passengers and crew members. The reference is to flights operating over Italian territory, thus those where departure and arrival take place within the borders of our country. In this case, carriers have no say and therefore the flag of the airline makes no difference.
Goodbye to the mask on board
L'Easa (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) and theEcdc (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) Have spoken out in favor of saying goodbye to face masks on airplanes. As much as the proximity of the seats may pose a risk, air circulation makes the cockpit of a commercial aircraft an extremely safe place. Much more so than a supermarket, for example. The requirement therefore fell from May 16 on flights within the European Union, however, freedom of choice was left to individual states. Operators must adapt to national rules if these still require the use of masks on means of transport beyond that date. This is the case in Italy, which will have to wait for at least until June 15 for a new update of the regulations. At that point we will see what the official announcement from the Ministry of Health will be.

Once again, before leaving, attention should be paid to the various regulations. The masking issue changes further in the case of international flights. In this case, in fact, the regulations in force in the country that issued the license to the airline with which you are traveling apply. Passengers should be adequately warned about the rules on board, which may differ from those in the departure and arrival areas.

However, the use of masks in indoor public places is still recommended. Therefore, carriers are requested to put up appropriate signage to this effect. In short, it is not yet time to remove the basic guidelines, which indicate, for example, how to properly use a face mask. The recommendation for the use of Ffp2 on board becomes more stringent, but without turning into an obligation, for passengers considered frail, given their particular health conditions.
Speaking of rules when traveling, it is not possible to forget about the Green Pass. It has been crucial in our lives for many months, and all of a sudden it seems we no longer feel the need for it. It is good to point out how it is no longer crucial, considering how it is no longer needed for internal travel within Italy.
