Almost two years after the presentation, the learning period is over. Although there are currently only six A380s equipped with this cabin, Emirates has officially announced that the testing phase is over and from next June 1 will put tickets on sale.
To date, it was impossible to buy a ticket in Emirates premium economy, simply because A380s with this set-up were used on a rotational basis on many routes. Now, however, with a dedicated section on the of the Dubai-based carrier, EK has made official the routes on which the new cabin will be featured.
In addition to premium economy, it is important to remember, there are also new features for everything else on the plane: from first class to economy.
On which routes PE will be present
Premium Economy cabin will be available on routes between Dubai, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, London Heathrow and Sydney. Italy excluded from this news for the time being, but it is a matter of time, as Emirates has announced that a large part of its fleet of A380 will be renovated with the installation of the new cabin. The choice of Sydney is definitely the most interesting, given the length of the trip, having a few extra inches may be worth the cost of the ticket.
This decision is also an indirect consequence of the Boeing 777x delivery delay, which is the plane Emirates had been banking on to gradually bring about the retirement of the A380.
What Emirates' new armchair offers
Since its introduction, Emirates' premium economy has redefined the standard of the class. By far, it is the best on the market, both in terms of the quality of the seat and the services Emirates offers passengers traveling in this class.
New design of the seats, which are positioned at the front of the main deck of the iconic double-decker aircraft. More legroom, dedicated catering, in-flight entertainment system available on a 13.3-inch HD screen, and more.
Price difference between Economy and Premium Economy
We have talked several times about the differences between these two classes of travel and since the outbreak of the pandemic, companies have seen a renewed interest from passengers in the "middle" seat. This is why so many carriers have announced the installation of these cabins and/or the renewal of those in their fleets.
At the moment it is not yet possible to see the price difference between an eco ticket and one in premium eco. It will also be interesting to see how this cabin will be priced in terms of a premium ticket, which could be the right middle ground for those who want to take advantage of Skywards points for free travel on Emirates. Tickets will go on sale starting next June 1 to fly on August 1.
No bar on board
Unfortunately, premium economy passengers will not have access to the bar on board the A380, which is reserved only for business class and first class passengers.
