An iconic phrase from the saga of Star Wars, which gave rise to an ad hoc celebration, set each year of course for May 4 ("May the Fourth" in English, with a clear assonance to the films' motto). And that this year gave the cue to Alaska Airlines and to Disney, owner of the rights to the saga created by George Lucas, for a new advertising initiative.

    Just last May 4, in fact, the airline of the northernmost of the U.S. territories presented a new livery inspired by Star Wars To sponsor the Disneyland Resort of Anaheim, California. While this was happening, on the other side of the world another company was discharging its special aircraft dedicated to the saga.

    A plane that certainly does not go unnoticed. Entirely black, with an image of the legendary Millennium Falcon plowing through dark space pursued by an Imperial Tie fighter. A reference that any fan of the famous saga born from the mind of George Lucas will easily recognize and appreciate.

    The new aircraft renamed "Star Wars Transport to the Disneyland Resort," with serial number N538AS, completely hand-painted in every detail, was unveiled by Alaska Airlines at the gate of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and then depart for its maiden flight to Orange County's John Wayne Airport., the closest stopover to California's Disneyland Resort.

    And it was precisely with the Disneyland Resort, whose logo stands out in the center of the fuselage, that this new collaboration was conceived, to celebrate and promote the Disney-branded amusement park's newest attraction: the area Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.

    The special livery of the new Alaska Airlines aircraft was completely handcrafted, through the use of 228 gallons of paint, and required 540 hours of work over a little less than a month.

    ANA against the tide: retired Star Wars livery

    But, for an airline that gives itself a new look inspired by Star Wars, there is another that puts one back in the attic. It takes place in Japan, about a month before Alaska Airlines' new project. And it involves. ANA (All Nippon Airways), which should retiring its Boeing 777-381ER, renamed BB-8 All Nippon Airways for its livery inspired by the cute droid from the most recent trilogy of Star Wars.

    The aircraft, serial number JA789A, had only been handed over to ANA in 2010. The new livery is a more recent design and has become incredibly popular with the Japanese airline's passengers following the route from Tokyo-Narita Airport and Chicago Airport.

    As early as 2020, the company hinted that it would withdraw, partly because of flight restrictions and industry downsizing caused by the pandemic, up to 35 of its aircraft, and now it seems that the famous plane of Star Wars.
