In an email sent today to Krisflyer program members, Singapore Airlines informed that the next July 5 will trigger changes (for the worse) in the loyalty program.
Devaluation in sight for prize tickets
The first, very bad, news is that it changes the table for applying for an award ticket with a Increased cost, in points, by about 10%.
Here is the table which will go into effect from next month.
This means that the Asian city-state carrier has been kind in giving a month's notice to members, and then until next June 4, one can book any award tickets with the current fixed schedule.
The increase is on all types of KF point usage: booking award tickets with Singapore and partner carriers and for class upgrades.
Change to free stopover rules
Starting August 1, 2022, stop-overs will be limited to a maximum of 30 days. Free stopovers longer than 30 days, as well as the paid stopover option, will no longer be available for tickets issued on or after August 1, 2022.
To date it was possible book a stopover of 12 months, this in fact allowed the possibility of organizing two trips with one ticket and was one of the most interesting features of the program.
Below is the note attached to the email in which the Asian company explains the reasons for the choice.
We ask for your understanding that these changes were made after careful deliberation, taking into account higher costs, and are necessary to ensure that the KrisFlyer program remains sustainable. We are committed to providing our members with more ways to earn and redeem miles, both in the air and on the ground, and to providing greater value to your KrisFlyer membership through regular enhancements to our program offerings and benefits.
In conclusion
A devaluation is bad news, the 10%, however, is not as dramatic compared to what other programs have done in the last period. I am more sorry about the stopover rule.
