Chaos in skies around the world shows no sign of abating, indeed. It is official Lufthansa's decision to cut nearly 1,000 flights in July to address staffing shortages, not to the lack of passengers, which had been many last summer as well, when restrictions had prompted a focus on European travel. The German carrier, today, faces the crisis by sacrificing about ten flights a day and thus optimizing resources and active staff.
The cancellations affect flights departing from Frankfurt and Munich on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. In absolute terms, the cut affects about 5% of flights operated on weekends.
European passengers are protected by regulations governing air transport and forcing the companies to re-route or refund the passenger.
If the trip was not booked directly on the Lufthansa website, you may need to contact the ticket seller to find out what to do. In any case, my advice is to check that the reservation is still properly standing and all flights still operational on the company's website.
The cancellations extend to all German group airlines and also involve Swiss, Austrian and Eurowings flights.
Best to check if the ticket is still confirmed and flight schedules. In fact, the companies automatically re-route the passenger on another flight in these cases.
