Ryanair fired a steward. The news does not seem to deserve the large following it has had throughout Europe, but the reasons for the carrier's choice justify readers' curiosity and why so many newspapers and sites have covered it. It is an affair that has the absurd and incredibly calls to mind some scenes from the TV series The Flight Attendant with Kaley Cuoco. Let's find out why this flight attendant no longer has a job and will probably struggle enormously to find a new one in the same industry.
Ryanair fires steward after scandalous video
A video has triggered the ire of Ryanair, which immediately fired one of its stewards, who was then taken into custody. The well-known newspaper The Sun started the whole affair by publishing footage that is unbelievable. The images show Sam Thompson, 26-year-old from Cheshunt, drinking alcohol during a Flight from Rzeszow, Poland, to London, with landing at Stansted Airport.
The entire scene took place in the back of the plane, where the man drank at least one small bottle of alcohol and then made an insulting gesture to the smartphone filming him. Considering the subject's elation, everything would suggest how that was not his first "drink."
The captain administered a breath test to Thompson, who was later arrested on charges of performing an aeronautical function as a functioning member of an aircraft cabin during a flight, in a condition impaired by alcohol. This is the official version of the Essex Police.
Space was also given to the words of a passenger, who witnessed with dismay the man's absurd behavior during the flight: "I really have no idea what he was thinking at the time. I asked him for a drink and when he came back to me he asked me to be quiet and confessed to me that he was going to have one too. He thus started drinking a shot of whiskey, and then shelling out a 187 ml bottle of rosé".
The passenger explained how the steward appeared visibly intoxicated and how, in his opinion, he had started drinking well before boarding, "When I asked him if I could talk to the captain, he became furious."
Arrest aboard Lauda Europe
As mentioned, the dismissal was decided by Ryanair, although the whole affair took place on board an aircraft of another carrier. We are talking about Laura Europe, as clarified by the parent company, which is sister to Michael O'Leary's company.
Here are the words of a Ryanair spokesperson, "Lauda Europe's policy is in line with what are the regulations of the European Aviation Safety Agency. This means that the consumption of alcohol by the flight crew is absolutely forbidden from 8 hours before the service and until the end of the service." The whole affair took place on May 18 and now further updates on the case are awaited.
