Boom Supersonic unveils new design: here's the latest on the supersonic plane

New design for the plane unveiled futuristic of Boom Supersonic, the company that promised to revolutionize Air transport by supersonic aircraft.

We have already discussed this in depth, CEO Blake Scholl declared, "Either we fail or we change the world." Their idea is to take up the concept of the famous Concorde And modernize it with new materials environmentally sustainable and an optimization of the motors. An ambitious and complicated project but one that would make it possible to go from London to New York in just 3 1/2 hours.

The new design of the Overture aircraft is the result of 26 million hours of simulation software, 5 wind tunnel tests and 51 designs advanced. Scheduled for production in 2024, it will travel at Mach 1.7 (that is, 1.7 times the speed of sound), have a range of more than 7,800km and a capacity of 65/80 passengers.

The seats that can be converted into beds will no longer be necessary, as the longest leg will be just 8 1/2 hours, from Los Angeles to Sydney, but the comfort will certainly not be lacking: the chairs will be ergonomic and recliners, most flights will be 4 hours.

United Airlines, Japan Airlines and Virgin believe in Boom Supersonic project

The first airline to invest in the project was United Airlines which ordered 15 jets from Boom Supersonic, we see the prototype before the new design:

Also Japan Airlines has shown interest, investing $10 million for the option to purchase 20 supersonic jets, while tycoon Richard Branson has ordered 10 aircraft for the Virgin Galactic project, i.e., the space airline of Virgin.

Will Boom Supersonic make an environmentally friendly jet?

Concorde consumed 17 liters of fuel per passenger per 100km traveled, and the aircraft's noise impact was considerable, traveling at a speed of Mach 2.02.

Today compared to the days of Concorde, we are able to use carbon composite materials throughout our fuselage, on our wings and vertical tail, which allows us to be much more aerodynamic and much more efficient. This helps reduce drag, which takes up fuel, as well as making the aircraft much more fuel efficient.

We really focused on making our takeoffs and landings as quiet, if not quieter, than any other long-haul airliner leaving any airport. They're not going to fly supersonic over land, we're going to fly supersonic over water. So that 'boom,' so to speak, is on the high seas."
