Low-cost carriers have started flights at absurd hours, taking off at 6 a.m. from Bergamo or Frankfurt Hahn is something we have all done, or almost all of us, but early morning flights are not exclusive only to low-cost carriers, quite the contrary. Personally when I have to move, especially on short haul, I always try to take an early morning flight regardless of the appointment time or the reason I have to move.
Why. In my personal experience with the same route/company, the morning flight has always proved to be the smoothest and most comfortable.
The plane hardly ever leaves late
An early morning flight means that, except in exceptional cases, the plane has already been on the tarmac since the night before. The later you travel, the more you are at risk of delay. "It is said that the slightest flap of a butterfly's wings is capable of causing a hurricane on the other side of the world" (movie The Butterfly Effect). And this happens in commercial aviation as well, where a ten-minute delay causes knock-on disruption to subsequent flights. That's why "missed" slots often lead to evening flights, especially in the peak season, being delayed by hours.
With a morning flight this does not happen, barring technical problems: not only with the 6 a.m. flight, but also with the next flight the chances of being late are low.
More rested cabin crew
True, the staff also got up at 4 a.m., as did the passengers more or less, but the chances that they are already as stressed as they were with the last flight of the work shift are low. This will result in more kindness, more considerate service, and more attention to the passenger's needs.
Cleaner airplane
During the covid peak We were told the fairy tale of deep cleaning and sanitizing at the end of each flight, but we know very well that this was a lie since the time between disembarking passengers on one flight and boarding passengers on the next flight was the same as before and now, this means only one thing: no extra cleaning was being done, and in fact many companies were handing out a kit to clean their own seat and the rest of the personal space on board.
If you leave on the first morning flight, on the other hand, the plane will be thoroughly cleaned, not simply tidied up by the cabin crew. And this is perhaps one of the most important reasons why I choose a morning flight.
Cheapest ticket
As fewer people are willing to travel early in the morning. tickets are significantly cheaper than the same flights at more convenient times. Sometimes the difference between a ticket for a flight that leaves at 7 a.m. and one at 11 a.m. for the same route is also considerable. Of course, this does not apply to routes such as Linate/Fiumicino or Nice/Paris that are typically used by business users who travel during the day and want the convenience of arriving early in the morning to have the whole day's work available.
How to avoid getting up late at night
An excellent solution in such cases is to sleep near the airport. There are beautiful hotels in some cases inside the terminal at others just a few shuttle minutes away that often have incredible runway views as well. This applies not only to major airports, but to all airports around the world. Sleeping near the airport reduces the chances of an inconvenience ruining the trip to zero. I, for example, once missed my plane because a serious accident stranded me on the highway for 4 hours; another time I risked missing my plane because the train had a technical problem. In conclusion
It can be annoying to have to get up early, but traveling more comfortably while spending less and in a cleaner plane can be worth the sacrifice. Besides, the great thing is that when you arrive at your destination you still have the whole day ahead of you.
